Details
The goal of the B.A. programme is to impart to the students the knowledge of Finnish and Hungarian as well as linguistic, cultural and cultural historical competences connected with the linguistic context. The Finno-Ugrian sphere, which is defined by the primary languages Estonian, Finnish, and Hungarian, has been deeply interconnected throughout its history; the examination of the close historical and cultural ties with the German-speaking regions is one of the main foci.
The subject Finno-Ugrian Studies in Göttingen is characterised by fact that two of the major Finno-Ugrian languages and the cultures of their respective speakers are taught with equal priority (Finnish and Hungarian), due to separate teaching units.
The research foci are on the history of science, language contact, and the specific history of the Finno-Ugrians as a whole.
During the B.A. programme, active and passive knowledge of two languages (Finnish/Hungarian) is acquired. The acquisition of knowledge of the Russian language, as recommended within the frame of the key qualifications, will be highly advantageous.
Particular combinations are not stipulated. However, the combination with another arts subject is recommended.
B.A. (2 subjects) (with specialised complementary studies or a studium generale)
M.A. (2 subjects) or "Mono-Master"
The professions suitable for B.A. graduates mainly belong to the practical intercultural field (e.g. translator, creative artist with a special focal theme). Depending on the specific objective, additional training in the areas of translating, history and political sciences, intercultural communication, literature or comparative studies may be necessary.
