Features of the course
The course prepares students for their professional field of activity in leading positions in the equine sector. Based on a broad practical fundamental knowledge in agricultural science, equine science or related areas, Equine Science (M.Sc.) provides advanced specialised study and in-depth knowledge enabling students to overview scientific coherences as well as to apply profound scientific methods and findings.
This postgraduate course ”Equine Science (M.Sc.)” comprises four semesters and is based on the examination regulations and conditions of studies of the Faculty of Agriculture at the Georg-August University of Goettingen.
Content:
a. 5 compulsory modules
b. 5 elective compulsory modules
c. 5 optional modules (free choice within the scope of modules offered by the agricultural programmes)
d. 1 master thesis
e. 1 colloquium
Particular proficiency in the following areas specified on equine science shall be attained by (partly) additional certificates (judge, trainer):
Equine nutritional physiology and feeding of the horse, equine performance and training physiology, horse breeding and genetics, hygiene, diseases and housing of the horse, as well as business studies and corporate management.
Various optional modules offered like: Principles of equine biology (anatomy, physiology), alternatives of use of the horse, biotechnology and management of reproduction (summer semester), organisation, types of riding and educational systems in German equestrian sport, economics and law, event and sport marketing, and process engeneering in equine husbandry, grazing management as well as one special practical module.

Leading positions in horse breeding associations, animal feed industry, husbandry technology companies, equestrian sport associations, riding schools and husbandry companies, performance test stations, equine marketing and commercialization, animal insurance companies, import and export of horses and related products, journalism or touristic business administration specialized on equine topics or event marketing.
Even better career opportunities exist for graduates having passed vocational and practical trainings and thus providing a variety of practical experience and know-how related to the equine sector.
