Educational Funding support
The University of Göttingen assumes the role of the Office for Educational Funding (Amt für Ausbildungsförderung) for the area of the Federal Training Assistance Act (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz - BAföG), i.e. the provision of educational funding, in terms of legal principle.
However, the state of Lower Saxony has stipulated by law that the Studentenwerk Göttingen is to be called upon by the (Foundation) University of Göttingen to carry out the vast majority of tasks under the BAföG.
The Studentenwerk Göttingen is therefore the first and main point of contact for students who wish to apply for educational support under the BAföG. The responsible department for student finance is located there, where applications for educational grants must also be submitted to. In particular, the Studentenwerk Göttingen decides on the granting or, if necessary, the reclaiming of educational support.
This only changes in cases where students do not agree with a decision of the Studentenwerk Göttingen and have not been able to clarify the disagreement bilaterally with the Studentenwerk Göttingen. It is then possible to file a lawsuit directly against the (Foundation) University of Göttingen as the Office for Educational Funding at the Göttingen Administrative Court. These administrative court proceedings are supervised by the subject area of educational support of division 83.
In addition, administrative offences under the BAföG, which may have occurred in connection with the administrative proceedings conducted by the Studentenwerk Göttingen, are sanctioned directly by this office.
