Mexico
Famous for its Mayan and Aztec history and impressive architecture, Mexico is considered one of the six cradles of civilisation. As the largest Spanish-speaking country in Latin America and a neighbour of the USA, Mexico plays an important role as a regional power. One of the world's best-known Mexican holidays is Día de los Muertos. But also beyond that, art and gastronomy create syntheses of pre-colonial, Spanish-colonial and contemporary influences. The University of Göttingen maintains a central partnership with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City.
