So-called third-party funding (§ 2 (2) WissZeitVG)
If you are employed on a fixed-term basis within the framework of a third-party funded project pursuant to § 2 (2) WissZeitVG, you are not entitled to an extension of your contract for periods of maternal or parental leave. The employment is tied to a specific project with a limited duration and is not intended to serve your academic qualification.
Exception: DFG-funded projects usually offer a cost-neutral extension of the contract period upon request, but in this case you should make sure that a fixed term for qualification is agreed upon before signing the contract, as long as the position also serves the purpose of qualification. Other third-party funding sources do not usually offer this possibility.
The application of the family policy component only applies to fixed-term contracts for qualification, but not to fixed-term contracts for third-party funding (according to § 2 (2) WissZeitVG).
