Acetylated beech laminated veneer lumber (LVL)
The specific goal of an interdisciplinary research team comprised of scientists and business professionals is the development and construction components made from acetylated beech laminated veneer lumber (LVL) for structural timber construction. In terms of fundamental research, the effect of veneer thickness on the acetylation process and the impact of acetylated beech veneers on the adhesion to LVL boards and laminated veneer lumber beams made from LVL lamellae - both surface bonded and finger-jointed - will be explored. Application-oriented research will investigate the manufacturing process, load-bearing and deformation behavior, as well as delamination behavior of acetylated beech LVL. As a result, due to the enhanced durability of components through the acetylation process, bendable, tensile, and compressive wooden construction products made from beech LVL will be provided for bridge and tower structures.
