The workshop provides foundational knowledge of generative AI: how language models work, ethical implications, bias in training data, as well as the opportunities and limitations of using AI in higher education. In the practical part, participants apply what they have learned directly, including through their own prompting exercises. The aim is to develop sound judgement as a prerequisite for the reflective use of AI tools in participants' own teaching practice.

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) connects language models with user-provided documents and reduces hallucinations by grounding responses in verifiable subject-specific material. In the workshop, you will get to know the GWDG RAG system and, in a hands-on exercise, create your own AI chatbot based on your seminar materials – as a foundation for using it in your own teaching.

Artificial intelligence (AI) can help you access information, develop ideas and edit texts. The clearer and more appropriate the prompt, the better the results can be controlled and reused.
In this training course, you will learn different prompting methods and how to structure a good prompt. During the practical sessions, you can directly apply what you have learned and improve your own prompts through targeted structuring. Practical tips for effective and time-saving prompting in everyday teaching round off the training course.

The workshop explores how assessment formats can be further developed in light of generative AI. Based on the principle of Constructive Alignment, participants examine how learning objectives, teaching methods and assessments can remain aligned. Using a competency map, participants reflect on which subtasks AI can already perform, which competencies must continue to be developed independently, and where human-AI collaboration creates added value.

During practical sessions, participants put their own assessment tasks through a “stress test” and then redesign them to make them more robust to AI – for example through process-based support, reflective components or individual links to seminar content. In addition, the University of Göttingen's position and recommendations for dealing with AI models are presented, and possibilities for using AI to create assessments are discussed.

The workshop is aimed at teaching staff from all disciplines.
