The doctoral program "Genes in Development, Disease and Evolution" is part of the Göttingen Graduate Center for Neurosciences, Biophysics, and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB). It is hosted by the Göttingen Center for Molecular Biosciences (GZMB) and is conducted jointly by the University of Göttingen, the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences, and the German Primate Center.
The program focusses on Genetics and Developmental Biology to better understand developmental, physiological, and evolutionary processes as well as to study the cause, course and treatment of diseases.
The research-oriented program is taught in English and open to students who hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in the biosciences, chemistry, physics, or related fields. For details on the application process, see the Apply page of GGNB.
The program accepts students from diverse areas of previous education who share enthusiasm for studying the genetic basis of developmental processes. Training is aimed at achieving a comparative understanding of how cell fate and topology are determined, a critical sense of how to apply comprehensive genomic analysis and genome editing tools, and the ability to set up and examine conceptual models for cellular functions. The program provides an interdisciplinary expertise in an unusually broad range of techniques from histology, phylogenetics, and sequencing to genome editing and imaging.
