Ira Milosevic

Junior Group Leader, European Neuroscience Institute, Göttingen

Ira Milosevic obtained her Diploma (Dipl.Ing.) in Molecular Biology from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 2001. She completed her Master and PhD studies in Neurosciences within the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) at the Georg August University Göttingen, Germany, in 2003 and 2006, respectively. Her PhD work on exocytosis was performed at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Biophysical Chemistry. After that, she was offered a postdoctoral position at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, USA where she studied endocytosis at the neuronal synapse. Ms Milosevic was promoted to a research scientist at Yale Cell Biology before becoming a group leader at the European Neuroscience Institute (ENI) Goettingen in 2012. Her present research interests include pathological aspects of synaptic vesicle recycling that lead to neurodegeneration.

Ms Milosevic was a Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (B.I.F.) fellow from 2003-2006 and a postdoctoral fellow of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) between 2007 and 2009. She has been awarded the University of Zagreb Chancellor’s Award in 2000, a research grant from the Epilepsy Foundation in 2010, the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) Anniversary Prize in 2011 and the Emmy Noether grant award in 2013. Ms Milosevic is married to biochemist Nuno Raimundo and a mother of an active four-year old boy, thus familiar with the challenges of a dual career couple and family-work balance.
