Objective : Structural complexity in forests and its relationship with biodiversity as measured with LiDAR.

My research focuses on the complex relationship between structure and diversity in forest ecosystems. For my Master's thesis, I investigated the effects of tropical land-use change on vegetation structure and its relationship to biodiversity in Sumatra, Indonesia. This study was part of the EFForTS project (Ecological and Socioeconomic Functions of Tropical Lowland Rainforest Transformation Systems: http://www.uni-goettingen.de/efforts.

Building on these findings, my PhD research continues to explore and deepen our understanding of the relationship between structure and diversity in tropical forest ecosystems. In particular, I am focusing on assessing the potential of using LiDAR-derived metrics as proxy for biodiversity, taking into account different facets of biodiversity, including taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity.
