Dr. Manuela Schmidt
Manuela Schmidt studied at the University of Würzburg and got her diploma degree in biology in 2002. She continued her studies at the University of Göttingen in the MSc/PhD/MD-PhD Program and International Max Planck School for Neurosciences and joined the group of Stefan Sigrist at the European Neuroscience Institute/ENI-G. As a doctoral student she worked on the characterization of synaptic protein complexes in the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster and received her PhD degree in 2006.
From 2007 to 2012 Manuela was a postdoctoral fellow at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California, USA in the group of Ardem Patapoutian where she studied ion channels involved in vertebrate mechanosensation and pain. As an Emmy Noether Group Leader she returned to Göttingen in 2012 and is currently heading a group at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine. She investigates the molecular signature of vertebrate somatosensation in health and disease.
