Soil microarthropod community ecology, trophic ecology and phylogenetic relationships along altitudinal gradients: the example of oribatid mites
My PhD research focuses on the community structure, trophic structure and phylogenetic relationships of soil microarthropods along altitudinal gradients in the Alps in Austria and Changbai Mountain in China, using Oribatid mites as model taxon. Specifically, I investigate:
• How do the oribatid mite communities respond to altitudinal changes? Is this different in the Alps and on Changbai Mountain?
• How does the trophic niche of oribatid mite communities shift along altitudinal changes as investigated by bulk stable isotope analysis (13C and 15N)?
• How do key functional traits such as trophic niche, body size and reproductive mode of oribatid mites change along altitudinal gradients? Is this different in the Alps and on Changbai Mountain?
