Surface Chemistry on Oxidized Surfaces

Research Focus

We use a ultra-high vacuum apparatus equipped with cutting-edge surface science equipment to study reactivity and structure of oxidized surfaces. Oxide surfaces play an important role in heterogeneous catalysis, yet many aspects of their reactivity is unknown. We study elementary steps of oxidizing surface reactions by combining molecular beams with ion imaging techniques and laser spectroscopy. The figure shows the main components of the apparatus.

Experimental Setup:

The apparatus provides two levels for experiments. The upper level houses typical surface science equipment like XPS, Auger, TPD, and Ar-Ion gun. The lower level provides the equipment to perform molecular beam surface reaction experiments with ion imaging detection.
