Workshop "Revisiting the Working Class Neighbourhood in Modern South Asia"
11-12 July
In July 2014, the "Modern Indian History" research group organised a two-day workshop titled "Revisiting the Working Class Neighbourhood in Modern South Asia". The workshop explored issues such as the questions of housing for the poor, strikes, communal violence, pogroms, caste riots, and social, political, cultural and literary movements that sprang up around the working class neighbourhoods in the former industrial centres of South Asia. The workshop brought together a multidisciplinary group of doctoral students and early career researchers from India, Pakistan, France, United Kingdom and Germany.
