The annual information days will take place at Georg August University on March 9 and 10, 2026. Over the course of two days, interested parties can find out about the range of courses on offer, learn more about the degree programs offered by the respective faculties, and gain an initial insight into the world of studying. April 8–9, 2026: Master's orientation phase
At the beginning of April, the annual orientation phase for new master's students at our faculty will take place again. Students will be welcomed in person in Göttingen before the start of the semester. In addition, you will receive all the relevant information for your studies and have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and lecturers. Further information on the dates of the subject presentations, timetable advice, and also on the university systems, study organization, your examination regulations, and socializing opportunities offered by the orientation phase and subject groups can be found...

Good Practice Teaching Examples – Summer Semester 2025
We are delighted to once again honor outstanding teachers from the Faculty of Social Sciences! Under the motto “Good Practice Teaching Examples at the Faculty of Social Sciences,” the Study Commission regularly highlights courses that have received particularly positive evaluations in teaching assessments — with the aim of highlighting good teaching and promoting interdisciplinary exchange. Joint AI statement by the Faculty of Social Sciences

The University of Göttingen has summarized its understanding of good teaching in a mission statement for teaching and learning. This mission statement was developed in a broad, university-wide, participatory process involving teachers, students, and members of the academic administration.

Research funding
The faculty subsidizes applications for funding for doctoral studies and the post-doctoral phase, as well as applications for funding for internationalization. The Research Commission decides on the applications received.

Dissertation defense and habilitation dates
Approximately 10 students complete their doctorates at the Faculty of Social Sciences each year, and 1-2 people obtain their habilitation. The dates of public university disputations and lectures can be found here.
