LEARN TO DESIGN INNOVATIVE IT SYSTEMS




Our Master's programme in Business Information Systems qualifies you for management positions and activities that require a high level of analytical and decision-making skills. During the research-oriented study programme, you will work with current publications and conduct your own research beyond the current state of knowledge. Through events held by practitioners, you will gain first-hand practical knowledge. In the project seminar, you solve the real challenges of a company and develop a prototype. In this way, you gain theoretical as well as practical expertise and methodological skills that enable you to question common approaches and develop innovative solutions. Our degree programme places a strong focus on innovative topics such as electromobility, digitalisation of production processes, artificial intelligence, big data, platforms and the development of digital business strategies. This opens up many career paths for you - whether in management positions, as a consultant for digital strategies or in research.







  • Basic module: Building crucial knowledge



    The Master's programme starts with basic modules that provide you with the crucial fundamental knowledge for designing digital processes in companies.



    • Modeling and System Development: Learn to graphically model a company's business processes, for example, in order to be able to digitise them.

    • Information Management: Learn about the role and tasks of the IT organisation within companies and what requirements are placed on the management of IT solutions.

    • Integrated Application Systems: Learn how processes and technologies are merged into overarching information systems in value chains between companies.

    • Digital Platforms: This course explores the specifics of business models, user motivations and trust systems of platforms such as Amazon.

  • Term paper seminar: Deepening knowledge



    The term paper seminar is part of the elective area. It gives you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and understanding, to improve your argumentation and discussion skills, and to further develop your communication skills on business informatics topics.

  • Project/ Research seminar: Independent research



    You conduct the project seminar, for example, in cooperation with a partner from industry. You do a literature study, develop hypotheses, collect data and evaluate them. You can also develop a prototype. Finally, you present your results. In the process, you work with real data and solve real, business problems. This gives you practical experience and creates a network of high-quality contacts that will help you start your professional life.

  • Electives: Building your own profile



    In the elective area, you can freely choose additional modules from the faculty's range according to your interests and thus develop an independent profile for your later professional life. You can take modules from the Master's programmes of the Faculty of Business and Economics in the fields of business information systems, business administration, economics and quantitative methods, as well as modules from the Master's programme in Applied Computer Science. Furthermore, you may take selected modules from the field of law as well as modules to sharpen key skills such as languages or leadership and communication skills. In addition, you can have a voluntary internship credited in the elective area under certain conditions.

  • Master's thesis: Applying acquired skills



    This is where your skills in research methods, critical thinking, independence and time management converge to enable you to pursue a research question autonomously. You will have the opportunity to research current and practically relevant topics in business informatics and work with real data. In addition, you have the option of writing your Master's thesis in cooperation with a company to gain direct insight into entrepreneurial practice.

All content is designed to relate to practice with a good theoretical and research basis: Case studies give you the opportunity to work out independent solutions. In term papers and your final thesis, you work on current, practice-relevant issues. And during the project seminar you will solve real challenges of our project partners - examples are Volkswagen, PricewaterhouseCoopers or Zalando.

Our Master's programme gives you great freedom in choosing the content. The elective area gives you the opportunity to get to know different subject areas in order to discover new interests. Specialisations allow you to develop your own profile and stand out from the crowd. In addition, we offer you the opportunity to participate in our research topics such as Digital Health, Smart Mobility, Digital Twins or Artificial Intelligence Applications.

Through our Master’s programme, you will not only get to know company executives in lectures, but also debate with them in seminars and solve their real entrepreneurial problems together with them in a practical project.
