Tasked anew with management and governance of universities – second term commences with immediate effect
(pug) Today, Göttingen University President Professor Ulrike Beisiegel was re-elected Vice-President of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). Since 2012, Prof. Beisiegel has been Vice-President of University Management and Governance within the HRK. Her new term is effective immediately and ends on 31 July 2017. "I am very pleased about my re-election as Vice-President of the HRK," Prof. Beisiegel states. "In my second term, I intend to focus with even greater commitment on the question of internal university structures and questions relating to autonomy at institutions of higher education. These topics will be dealt with in the Standing Commission for Organisation, Higher Education Management, Governance and Human Resources, which I chair."
Ulrike Beisiegel, born in 1952, has been President of the University of Göttingen since 1 January 2011. From 2005 to 2010, she was Ombudsman of the German Research Foundation. From 2006 to 2011, she was a Member of the Advisory Board to the German Government and, from 2008 to 2010, Chairperson of its Scientific Commission. Since 2009, she has been a member of the Senate of the Leibniz Association and, since 2011, a member of the Senate of the Max-Planck Society.
The HRK is the voluntary association of state and state-recognised German universities. It functions as the voice of the universities vis-à-vis political parties and the public, providing a forum for joint policy and decision-making at institutions of higher learning. It addresses all topics relating to the responsibilities of universities: research, teaching and learning, continuing academic education, knowledge and technology transfer, international collaborations and administrative self-management. A total of seven vice-presidents work for the HRK.
