Financial support
Financing university studies is not always easy – especially for students with disabilities and/or chronic diseases, financial requirements may increase, for example if technical aids are needed or if the duration of study is prolonged. In the following, you will find information on the various possibilities of financing and remission of payments, some of which are particularly designed to address students with disabilities and/or chronic diseases:
Universitätsbund e.V (University Association)
Applications for funds from the treasury of Universitätsbund Göttingen e.V. to meet special needs can be submitted in a simple form . The subsidies are intended to assist with additional requirements in the student’s personal budget (e.g. rent and board subsidies, financing of necessary technical appliances and equipment).
More detailed information on how to apply can be found here.Refund of semester ticket
The Social Department of the student union AStA is responsible for semester ticket refunds. Severely disabled persons and others can submit applications for reimbursement.
The application forms and more detailed information are available here or can be obtained from the Social Department of AStA during their office hours.Exemption from tuition fees and prolonged studies fees
According to Article 14, Paragraph 2, Clause 2 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG), tuition fees and prolonged studies fees can be waived in full or in part on application, if the obligation to pay such fees would cause undue hardship. If a disablement or chronic disease has the effect of prolonging the time of study, this generally constitutes a case of undue hardship. On principle, a waiver of fees can therefore only be considered if the standard course length has been exceeded (“prolonging the course length”).
