Study opportunities for refugees
Göttingen University welcomes refugees who want to learn German or wish to continue their academic education. Here you will find an overview of what we offer and a list of all of our contact persons.

Special office hours for refugees
Starting immediately, refugees can come to the Office of Student Affairs for advice and counselling every Thursday from 14:00 to 15:00 CET without making an appointment.

Guest students
Refugees can register free-of-charge to listen in on lectures as guest students. A project is now being initiated to support them in doing so this coming winter semester. Starting October, persons intending to prepare for studies at a German university can become acquainted with the country's higher education system and attend individual lectures and courses. Computer workplaces and libraries are also available for use. Current students will be volunteering to assist refugees as buddies and language coaches.

Library services
The Göttingen State and University Library (SUB) is available for use by refugees. As a public space of Göttingen University, it is open for reading and studying. Different user ID cards provide access to a variety of services.

Teaching German
You want to give lessons in the German language? Then you can earn your qualification at the Department of Intercultural German Studies for German as a Foreign Language. Participants in the module entitled "Intercultural German Studies / German as a Foreign Language" will acquire the basic skills in how to teach languages. An interdisciplinary practical module prepares advanced students for their work, whilst providing subject-related support. You will improve your skills in teaching German as a foreign language, learn to identify areas where fostering is needed, understand the complex psychosocial living circumstances of refugees and find out about how to deal with the legal and socio-political infrastructure and language policy constructs currently in place. The practical courses are held in cooperation with the Integration Centre of Lower Saxony in Friedland, in language learning classes, among others.
