Studying in the USA with the Fulbright program
The German-American Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Germany) facilitates cross-cultural understanding through academic exchange. As the sole bi-national exchange organization in Germany with a focus on the US, it gives out approximately 700 scholarships and stipends for student, research, faculty, and professional development stays in the US and Germany. Through these scholarships it advances transatlantic dialogue and creates synergy through diversity. As the largest and most multi-faceted Fulbright Program in the world the German American Fulbright Commission has supported more than 46,000 US-Americans and Germans since its founding in 1952.

Academic ScholarshipsScholarships from Fulbright Germany provide German students financial support for a four to nine month graduate level study abroad at an accredited US university.
Application deadline: May to August for the academic year following the upcoming one
Travel grants for German students who will study for 4-9 months at a US partner university of their home (German) institution.
Application deadline: November to January for the coming academic year
Small American institutions, known as liberal arts colleges, offer future English teachers the opportunity to pursue in a 9 month stay as a German Language Teaching Assistant (GLTA). The teaching load is 15-20 teaching hours per week and includes registration in academic courses at the host institution.
Application deadline: August for the academic year following the upcoming one
Funding and Programs for researchers
Travel Stipends for Teaching and ResearchThrough the award of travel grants, the Fulbright Commission supports the development and deepening of academic and scientific contacts between German academics and US institutions.
Cottrell-Fulbright Scholars receive funding from the Ministry of Education and Research in the amount of 63,000€ to pursue a three year teaching and research project.
In this program the Fulbright Commission supports 4 – 6 month dissertation research stays for early career scientists and researchers in the US.
Application deadline: April 1 for a stay starting in November of that year

Seminar for German Administrators in International EducationThis one week seminar provides participants the opportunity to deepenn their knowledge of their respective areas of higher education in the US
