HEM-WPC
Innovative and efficient compounding of wood and plastics using high-energy milling technology (HEMI) for the production of wood-plastic composites (WPC)
In this cooperative project "Production of Wood-Plastic Composites (WPC)" an innovative process for the compounding of wood, thermoplastic and additives on a laboratory scale was developed and optimized. The aim of the project was to produce marketable WPC products (based on spruce and beech wood), using high energy milling (HEMI) technology. The properties of the composite were improved by the new process so that the industrial production of durable, low-maintenance, dimensionally stable and visually attractive composite products could begin. The desired micro- and nanostructure of the produced wood particles should in future make it possible to produce complex injection moulds with thin-walled structures.
