KlimaKleb

In the project "KlimaKleb", beech wood surface and finger jointing for the production of structural components will be investigated. The development goal is a reliable and simple connection technology that can be standardized and implemented in an industrial manufacturing process. To achieve this, for example, various finger joint profiles, pressing pressures, and glue application quantities are to be tested. In addition, particular attention will be paid to the climatic dependence of the glued connection during and after the gluing process, in order to minimize the influence of the ambient climate on the gluing quality and reliability.
Another goal of this project is the development of a novel support structure as an alternative to conventional beech glue-laminated timber. The aim is a three-layered structure: The central position of the carrier should consist of plate-shaped, block-glued beech wood, which also allows the processing of inferior, cheaper qualities. The higher-stressed tension and compression regions are to be manufactured from slats of higher quality.
In addition, health aspects of the project will be examined. Since beech wood naturally emits a comparably small amount of VOCs, it is of particular interest for indoor use. Investigations in this field, especially of solid wood in combination with various adhesives are however not up to date. The emission behaviour of glued laminated timber or newly developed components in this project will be monitored from production to installation.
