We regard support for gifted and motivated students as an investment in the future of our country and of the countries from which our international scholarship recipients come.

We support students regardless of their social background, family, religion and gender. Our criteria for subject-related qualification of scholarship recipients are the applicant’s academic performance up to the time of application and his/her expected performance during the funding period. Successful applicants are expected to achieve clearly above-average results in their degree programmes or doctoral studies.

But top grades alone are not sufficient. We expect tolerance and open-mindedness, creativity and readiness for dialogue also with other religions – and above all a well-grounded personal set of moral values. When we take a look at Germany’s past, it becomes obvious where efficiency and top performance can lead when people bearing responsibility high-handedly disregard moral obligations. This should be seen as a warning for the future.

With this value-oriented support of outstanding achievements and personal qualification, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation aims to develop existing intellectual resources both at home and abroad. We thus contribute to peace, freedom and international understanding.

We keep in close contact with our former scholarship recipients. Together with our current scholarship recipients and liaison lecturers, they form our network of support for gifted students.
