Postdoctoral Researcher

Research:
I am currently involved in WP1 “Crop Rotation Adjustment/Modelling” within the ZERN research project (Future of Nutrition in Lower Saxony). The sub-project investigates how crop rotations in Lower Saxony are shaped by climatic, environmental, and socioeconomic conditions and how they may need to adapt under future change. My work focuses on monitoring and modelling agroecosystems, with particular emphasis on improving the reliability of process-based crop models used to evaluate adaptation strategies. By integrating field observations, climate information, remote sensing, and crop-system modelling, we aim to strengthen model performance and contribute to the development of climate-resilient and sustainable crop rotation strategies for Lower Saxony (ZERN - Georg-August-Universität Göttingen).

My previous research has focused primarily on evapotranspiration, agricultural drought, and climate-related risks to agroecosystems. A further major focus of this work has been the monitoring and forecasting of drought hazards in both irrigated and rainfed agricultural systems, with particular interest in understanding how water availability and vegetation respond to climatic variability and drought. As part of the OUTLAST project, I contributed to the development of an operational, multi-sectoral framework for global drought-hazard forecasting. OUTLAST addressed drought hazards across several sectors, including water supply, riverine and terrestrial ecosystems, and rainfed and irrigated agriculture. The project aimed to provide scientifically robust information that can support decision-makers in anticipating drought impacts and developing appropriate adaptation and risk-management strategies under a changing climate.

Final report: Development of an operational, multi-sectoral global drought hazard forecasting system (OUTLAST)

Beyond my work in ZERN and OUTLAST, my research also focuses on the use of Earth Observation and hydro-climatic analysis to investigate agricultural water stress, evapotranspiration dynamics, drought vulnerability, crop phenology, and irrigation impacts. I am particularly interested in understanding how climate variability and water management influence agricultural systems and in improving remote-sensing-based approaches for monitoring agricultural resilience under climate change
