Details
The bachelor’s programme for a teaching profession with political science as a teaching subject at the Gymnasium aims to give students the ability to independently conduct scientific work. They will acquire extensive knowledge in the basic terms as well as historical connections, methods and theories of political science and learn to apply these in a practice-oriented manner. The programme is divided into several compulsory, optional compulsory and advanced modules. An example of a course of study is found on the site of the Faculty of Social Sciences (see below).
This teaching subject combines the areas of Politics and Economy, which is why a specialisation in Economics is integrated. This specialisation comprises Economics, Business, Economic and Social History as well as Social Policy.
Some examples of subject focuses in Göttingen are the political system of Germany, party research, as well as political theory and the history of ideas.
Very good English skills are required for successful studies. Additional knowledge of other modern foreign languages is advantageous. Extensive knowledge in history, especially in recent and contemporary history, is required. Applicants whose knowledge in these areas is poor are recommended to attain proficiency before embarking on the bachelor’s programme.
Graduates of this programme will find work opportunities in schools, as soon as they have additionally completed the Master of Education as well as the required practical training (Referendariat).
