The Social and Political Mobilization of 'Ordinariness' in Indian Democracy

Profs. Srirupa Roy and Rupa Viswanath, and Visiting Professor Sanjay Srivastava have been convening an international planning meeting on June 11, 2013, to discuss the politics of "the ordinary" with anthropologists, political scientists, sociologists and historians from Germany, the US, the UK and India. Participants considered the rise to prominence and changing representations of the "aam admi," the everyman, in modern India, and planned for a larger international workshop as well as a collaborative research agenda around this theme.
