The need for care means that a disabled or sick person requires support to manage their daily life. The care is mostly needed for a longer time period. This is often, but not exclusively, age-related. There are physical, cognitive and psychological reasons for the need of care. Care of close relatives may include (examples):

  • regular support with household management, health/medical care, financial- and official matters,
  • regular assistance with basic care (washing, dressing, etc.),
  • organization of a sudden care situation,
  • organization of and accompaniment to medical examinations, therapies and social participation,
  • Legal guardian of a close relative with dementia, disability or mental illness,
  • Care and parental responsibilities of a physically or mentally disabled or chronically ill child.
