W2 Professorship in Mathematics and Mathematics Education

The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a temporary professorship with civil servant status (grade W2 NBesO) at the Mathematical Institute effective at the earliest possible date:

W2 Professorship in Mathematics and Mathematics Education (f/m/d)

If the personal requirements are met, the professorship will be awarded with civil servant status for a period of five years.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and conduct scholarly research in the areas of Mathematics and Mathematics Education. We are looking for a team-oriented and committed individual with a research focus on the areas of teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary or tertiary education. Participation in current and future projects related to the "Collection of Mathematical Instruments and Models" would be very welcome. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the areas of both Mathematics and Mathematics Education, especially in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes for pre-service secondary school teachers. The appointed professor is welcome to get involved in the further development of the teacher training programmes. The University of Göttingen attaches importance to research-oriented teaching.

Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law, in particular proof of aptitude for subject-specific courses in mathematics, as well as of pedagogical aptitude as stipulated in Art. 25 para. 2 sentence 1 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act is required. As a rule, junior professors and other members of the University of Göttingen can only be considered for a professorial appointment if after the completion of the doctoral thesis they have transferred to another university or worked for a minimum of two years in science elsewhere. The University of Göttingen is a Public Law Foundation and thereby entitled to award professorships. Details will be provided upon request.
