Data Protection Policy
When using the website for informational purposes only, i.e., if you do not register or otherwise provide us with information, we collect only that personal data which your browser transmits to our server. If you wish to view our website, we collect the following data to the extent that it is technically necessary for us in order to display our website to you as well as ensure its stability and security.
In addition to the aforesaid data, cookies are stored on your computer when you use our website. Cookies are small text files that are attributed to the browser you are using and stored on your hard drive and which provide specific information to the website that places the cookie (in this case, our website). Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Overall, they serve to make Internet content more user-friendly and effective.

The websites of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen contains links to various integrated social media platforms, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr. These should not be seen merely as an integration of data such as the "Like" button, but links to the university's social media presence on the respective platform. The Georg-August-Universität Göttingen does not store any data relevant for the application of data protection laws.
If external content is embedded on a university website (via iframe or in a similar way), cookies may be set or general framework data such as your IP address may be transmitted to the respective provider. Thus, the privacy policies of the respective provider also apply. For this reason, the Twitter and YouTube content embedded on our pages is inactive by default and is only activated by your consent to the privacy policy of the external service provider.
This website uses Matomo for web analytics. For this purpose, usage information generated by "cookies" (including your shortened IP address) is transmitted to the server and stored for usage analysis purposes after it has been made anonymous. The information generated by the cookie(s) about your usage of the site will not be transmitted to third parties.

On our websites, we offer you the opportunity to apply to our programs by entering personal data via an input screen. This data includes your personal information (name, gender, birthdate and -place, address information) as well as information on your educational background, motivation to study in our program and information on two referees.
The legal basis for processing data is the existence of the user's consent according to Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR.

In rare cases, we may have a legal obligation to collect your information. Then Article 6 Paragraph 1 Subparagraph 1 lit. c) GDPR applies.
If we need your data to fulfil our public duties, Article 6 Paragraph 1 Subparagraph 1 lit. e) GDPR applies.
The above-mentioned automatic data collection, about your browser and the circumstances of your visit to our website, is based on our legitimate interest in the security and functionality of the website in accordance with Article 6 paragraph 1 Subparagraph 1 lit. f) GDPR, and when appropriate, in connection with Article 6 paragraph 1 subparagraph 1 lit. e) GDPR. This is also the case for setting certain cookies as necessary.
Your conflicting interest in the secrecy of this data must be secondary to our legitimate interest, otherwise we would have to go without a web presence, which is not reasonable considering our public duties, in particular, Paragraph 1, Section 3, No. 10, NHG.
