Land-use change and livelihood effects among smallholder farmers in Indonesia

Over the past few decades lowland rainforest areas in Jambi Province of Sumatra have experienced dramatic change in land-use. The expansion of and the shift to oil palm has driven these land-use changes remarkably. Building on three sets of household survey data compiled within C07 subproject, our research attempts to better understand the socioeconomic drivers of land use changes. My research combines micro-level analysis of farm and non-farm households in Jambi. Research questions to be elaborated are looking at household welfare, nutrition and gender issues.
