Forest Management Planning for the Tropics
International Virtual Academic Collaboration – IVAC
As part of the DAAD IVAC programme, the project "Forest Management Planning for the Tropics" has been approved for the funding period 2021 - 2022.

Summary
We want to enable international forestry students to interactively learn theory and management practice in different forest types in the tropics/sub-tropics. We aim at developing a virtual course for Forest Management Planning (FMP) for the Tropics. It will support internationalization at home by exemplifying tropical forest types and management strategies for UGOE and UNIPA for both mobile students and their non-mobile peers.
It can be integrated in the curricula of UGOE and UNIPA MSc study programmes with the potential prospect of being an elective course for exchange students from other partner universities (e.g. in the DAAD project ID 57449239 or in liveSciences3), further research partners and UGOE alumni.
By the end of the course, participating students are able to:
(a) Explain the concept of forest management planning and different types of management plans;
(b) Conceptualise and prepare a forest management plan,
(c) Analyse and solve the complex challenges in forest management;
(d) Work in multi-cultural environments;
(e)They have competencies in project planning, time management, international teamwork and presentation skills.
Infrastructure: Based on the learning content management system (LCMS) ILIAS, which is used at the University of Göttingen as a supplement to Stud.IP, OpenILIAS offers a platform for joint learning in (international) university collaborations. After registration, it allows access to a course and the learning modules and tests contained therein to learners who are not Göttingen students, and enables international student groups to collaborate in a closed space.
An additional communication platform will be established for course participants. It will grow over time as each year participants of the course will be added. We aim at providing a network of experienced and young forest researchers and practitioners in FMP in the tropics. It also represents a community of practice to exchange on virtual learning, teaching and knowledge transfer practice.
