Details
Geography is an exciting and multifaceted human-environment science. Whether it's the climate crisis (global warming) or natural disasters, conflicts over dwindling resources or sustainable public transport structures, liveable cities of the future or renewable energies, demographic change or migration, sustainable environmental protection or tourism - geographers are involved in analysing and developing solution strategies for many ecological, social, cultural and economic challenges of the 21st century. If you are interested in these and other geographical topics, then our Bachelor's degree programme in Geography is just right for you.
The Bachelor's degree programme in Geography offers you a theoretically sound and practical education based on current geographical content. It opens up a wide range of geographical professions (see below) and prepares you for a further Master's degree programme. You will be able to apply scientific knowledge to the organisation of the human habitat. You will be able to discuss spatial development and planning projects in a team, recognise problems and develop and communicate suitable solutions.
You will learn the theoretical principles of physical geography and human geography, cartography and geoinformatics. At the same time, you will be introduced to the diverse working methods of geography. For example, you will learn how to carry out surveys or mapping, how to take soil samples or obtain data from satellite images. Using specific practical questions, you will practise analysing, interpreting and presenting the data obtained, e.g. with the help of geographic information systems (GIS).
Excursions and field projects allow you to gain an impressive understanding of geographical phenomena and interrelationships at specific locations in the real world and apply the methods you have learnt in practice. During a work placement, you will familiarise yourself with work content, processes and perspectives in one of the many geographical professions.
