New Professor of Financial Accounting and Sustainability Reporting

Prof. Dr Vanessa Flagmeier will take over the Chair of Financial Accounting and Sustainability Reporting at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen from 1 August 2024. Before moving to Göttingen, Prof Flagmeier held the Junior Professorship for Business Administration with a focus on Accounting at the University of Passau.

Her research focuses on the determinants and effects of corporate reporting, in particular sustainability reports. One current project, for example, deals with the question of whether more digitalised companies publish better sustainability reports. Another focus of her research is tax reporting in annual financial statements, for example on deferred taxes or the Group tax rate.

In teaching, Prof Flagmeier will offer basic courses in the Bachelor's and Master's programme as well as in-depth modules and seminars.

Her research work has been published in high-ranking academic journals such as "European Accounting Review", "Accounting and Business Research" and "Journal of Accounting and Public Policy".

She is a reviewer for various specialist journals and conferences, such as "European Accounting Review", "Advances in Accounting", "Accounting in Europe" and the "European Accounting Association Annual Congress".

Vanessa Flagmeier studied International Business Studies (Bachelor) and Business Administration (Master) at the University of Paderborn and completed her doctorate there in 2017 on the topic of "Financial Statements' Tax Disclosure - Management Incentives and Usefulness". This was followed by a research stay at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina. She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Paderborn before moving to the University of Passau in 2020.
