PD Dr. Manfred Kayser
Head of Geo-Labor, University of Vechta
As a researcher, I hope to contribute towards a more sustainable, resilient and nutrient efficient crop production. This includes research at the landscape, farm and field scale, focusing on forage crops and grassland management whilst taking into account challenges as the negative impacts of climate change, N losses to the environment and the decline in biodiversity.
My main interest lies in plant-soil relationships and nutrient cycling – particularly that of N, but also of P and K. A key factor in achieving a more sustainable crop production is improving nutrient efficiency – particularly with regard to nitrogen – and reducing losses at the farm and field scale.
I hold degrees in Agriculture (Diplom-Ingenieur, University of Applied Sciences, Osnabrück, D) and Soil Science (MSc, University of Reading, GB) and and I completed my PhD and my Habilitation (post doctoral degree) in Grassland Science (University of Göttingen, Germany). I have also been a farmer and a part-time farmer for almost four decades.
