European migration policy in the shadow of the European elections
The European Parliament passed the asylum and migration reform of the EU in April 2024. It ended a year-long process, and did so just in time before the European elections. Migration is seen by many as decisive topic when voters get to make a choice on June 9. In our panel, we would like to give background to the Asylum and migration reform, discuss its implications as well its relevance for the upcoming elections.
We want to start with analyzing the state of the European asylum and migration policy in the wake of the GEAS reform that had been many years in the making. Building on that we want to discuss whether the reform and its passing right before the European elections in June can prevent migration being one of its key topics.
To do so, we want to approach the issue from different disciplinary angles, from political sciences, cultural anthropology and law.
The panel will be held on Monday, 13 May 2024, 14:15-16:45, VG 0.111.
Everybody interested is welcome.
