Profile of the Faculty of Science
The distinguishing characteristic of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is its broad combination of subjects ranging from Ethnology, Educational Science, Gender Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Sport Science to Modern Indian Studies. The Faculty also runs a cross-departmental Center of Methods. In the past few years, it has been increasingly successful in establishing interdisciplinary links between these subjects in both teaching and research.
The common research object of the disciplines in the Faculty of Social Sciences is the social action and experience of people in a historically, geographically and socially determinable place as well as the analysis of social conditions of individual and collective action from micro-, meso- and macro-social perspectives. The task is also to compare different social and temporal contexts. In addition to their interdisciplinary nature, the Faculty's research fields are characterized by the combination and communication of a broad spectrum of quantitative and qualitative methods.
Research
Embedded in the Göttingen Research Campus with its diverse cooperative relationships with internal and external university institutes and centers, research at the Faculty of Social Sciences is divided into the following three interlinked focal areas:
