PROF. DR. MICHAEL WOLFF
Since 2011, I have been a Professor of Business Administration and Chair of the Department of Management and Control at the University of Göttingen. Prior to that, I held a professorship at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 2010 to 2011. I declined offers from Philipps University Marburg (2011) and the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) (2017).
My research interests lie at the intersection of corporate governance and the management of strategic transformation processes. Examples include digitalization and its impact on strategic planning processes or the CFO organization as a whole. I also conduct research on various aspects of sustainable corporate governance structures. The common foundation of my research activities is their empirical orientation, with the goal of deriving evidence-based statements for both research and practice.
I am the author of numerous research and practice-oriented publications. My research has been published in journals such as the Business Ethics Journal, Contemporary Accounting Research, European Accounting Review, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business, Long Range Planning, Management Accounting Research, and Strategic Management Journal. Additionally, my work has regularly been featured in the media, including Handelsblatt, Börsenzeitung, FAZ, Financial Times, Süddeutsche, ARD, and ZDF.
I have extensive teaching experience in my areas of research interest. I have taught in various Bachelor's, Master's, MBA, and doctoral programs, for example, at Bucerius Law School, HHL – Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and the University of Leipzig. In 2020, I received the inaugural teaching award of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Göttingen. I am also involved as a lecturer in practical training and seminars, for example, in the Handelsblatt Executive Program for Supervisory Boards or for the Volkswagen AG Autouni.
Since 2023, I have been the Deputy Chair of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB). I serve on the scientific advisory board of the Hans Böckler Foundation and am a member of the Governance & Stewardship Commission of the German Financial Analysts' Association (DVFA). From 2021 to 2023, I was an elected member of the Senate of the University of Göttingen. Since 2018, I have also been responsible for alumni relations and fundraising at the Faculty of Economic Sciences.
I have gained practical experience through my work as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and as the founder of two companies. I regularly conduct transfer-oriented projects with domestic and international companies, such as B.Braun, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Infineon, Siemens, Siemens Energy, and Volkswagen.
