Seminars
- Dialogues on Criminal Justice – Behind Bars, Across Borders (Prof. Baur)
The seminar takes place in the context of research-based teaching and, in cooperation with the Stanford Law School, focuses comparatively on the conditions of imprisonment in Germany and the United States. In a joint theoretical phase, students from Göttingen and Stanford work together in several virtual sessions to get to know and discuss their respective prison systems. The international perspective is intended to enable a new examination of central issues such as incarceration, prisoner compensation and rehabilitation.
In summer 2026, a practice-oriented research phase will follow in correctional facilities in Hamburg, where Göttingen students will conduct interviews with prisoners. The insights gained will be jointly analyzed in the seminar and related to the theoretical findings from the first phase. The theoretical phase with the students from the USA will be conducted in English.
The preliminary meeting took place on January 28, 2026. No places are available.
- Research Colloquium in Criminology (Prof. Baur)
To more closely link research and teaching, Prof. Baur offers a research colloquium in criminology every second Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm in the departmental library during the summer semester 2026.
Interested students are given the opportunity to gain deeper insights into criminological research based on the focus areas of the chair.
