I would like to warmly welcome you to my new position as Administrative Professor of Sport and Health Sociology, which I took on on April 1, 2022.
So that you can get a first impression of me:

You all know the latter e.g. from the Corona-Warn-App.
In my role as a professor of administration, I will take over the courses and teaching tasks in the coming semesters.
I look forward to meeting you all in person soon.

Dear students,
With the nationwide regulations on contact restrictions for November, we at the Institute for Sports Science had made the regulation to suspend classroom teaching in the practical events ("Sports Practice") until the end of November (see announcement of October 28th, 2020).
Since the infection rate is still at a high level and contact minimization is also being encouraged nationwide, we have decided - also with a view to the upcoming public holidays and the larger family gatherings associated with them - to only hold the practical events digitally this year to let take place.
At the same time, we consider the practical experience within the framework of classroom teaching to be an essential part of a sports science degree and would like to correspond to our educational mandate in this sense and enable you to have these experiences and learning opportunities. For this reason, we are planning face-to-face teaching from January (subject to the infection rate then allowing this).
The classroom teaching takes place in accordance with the hygiene measures of the institute. You can find these in the hygiene concept on the homepage of the institute. You can get more detailed information on the individual courses from the respective teacher in studip.
Kind regards and stay healthy!

Congratulations to the Director of the Institute for Sports Science, Professor Dr. Ina Hunger, for the election as spokeswoman for the Ethics Council of the German Association for Sports Science.
Dear students,
since yesterday we have certainty that the professorships of the retiring colleagues J. Mayer and Gerd Thienes can be replaced by two very qualified scientists (initially for one year). We are very happy about that. In the next week, the colleagues will work on this
Briefly introduce the position.
We continue to work to ensure that the chairs are retained permanently and that we are allowed to re-advertise the vacant professorships promptly (and permanently). In this context, we are currently required to develop conceptual considerations for the future of the Institute for Sports Science. We will do this in close coordination with the dean's office, which supports us in our efforts to maintain the positions and structures at the institute.
As far as the two vacant part-time positions are concerned, they may be filled promptly, but only for a limited period of time. We hope to be able to introduce these employees to you shortly.
Best Regards

Prof. Dr. Ina Hunger (Managing Director)
Dear students,
A week ago today (September 8th, 2020) I informed you that two of the three professorships at the Institute for Sports Sciences (IfS) will be leaving the institute in the coming winter semester and that the recruitment process for two permanent positions in the Master's program "Prevention/Rehabilitation /Mental Health” were not allowed to continue. I promised you that we will inform you weekly about the current situation in order to enable transparency and reduce additional uncertainties on your part.
On September 9th, 2020, the board of the IfS submitted a ten-page statement to the dean's office and the executive committee on the current situation and the future of the IfS. In this, we ask that the two professorships that will be vacant in the near future be filled and that the recruitment process for the two vacant permanent positions be continued in order to maintain the training structures at the institute in the short and long term. In the statement, we also make it clear that the imminent vacancy of 34 SWS in academic teaching cannot be covered with the current staff and that the institute is dependent on the corresponding human resources being reallocated immediately. We are currently still waiting for an answer or an appointment.
Once again I ask you for patience and confidence - even if it is difficult.
Best Regards

Prof. Dr. Ina Hunger (for the board)
Dear students,
As you may have heard from social media, the Institute of Sports Science is in a challenging situation. Prof. Dr. Jochen Mayer (Sports and Health Sociology) and Prof. Dr. Gerd Thienes (training and movement science) will take up a new position at the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd and at the University of Vechta. Two of the three professorships are leaving our institute on or during the winter semester 20/21.
The reputation of the professors is linked to the fact that two part-time positions in the academic mid-level faculty (permanent positions) in the areas of "health and sports education" and "health and sports sociology" are currently not allowed to be filled.
We want you to remember that We would like to inform you that we will do everything we can to fill the positions again (both short-term and permanent) in order to maintain teaching in the degree programs and work at the institute. However, we are bound by the decisions and allocations of funds by the Presidential Board or Dean's Office and ask you for a little patience and confidence. We will update you weekly here.

Information on teaching in the summer semester
Dear students of sports science,
Due to the corona pandemic, we have had to draw the appropriate consequences for our institute. Please take note of the following guidelines:
The premises of the Institute for Sports Science (offices, secretariats, seminar rooms, etc.) are only accessible to students to a limited extent and can only be reached via the stone steps in the north car park in urgent cases. We will publish the corresponding modalities shortly. The sports facilities are closed.
You can usually attend consultation hours by telephone during the designated time. In this regard, please contact the respective lecturer by e-mail in advance of the intended consultation hour.
The Secretariat will no longer be staffed continuously. However, you can usually reach the administrative staff by telephone and e-mail. Documents that you wanted to submit personally should now be submitted by post. The mail is regularly forwarded to the addressee.
Teaching will be suspended with immediate effect. The lectures originally scheduled to start on April 14, 2020 will be initially postponed to April 20, 2020. The decision on a possible further postponement and possibly an extension of the lecture period will depend on the further development of the corona pandemic. We are currently examining the extent to which we can block or digitize events at a later date.
Exams in presence are suspended with immediate effect. This also applies to the rewriting exams of the lecture events. Of course, we will try to ensure that you do not suffer any disadvantages as a result of the postponed resumption of teaching and examinations.
We kindly ask you to check general developments regularly on the info page (https://www.uni-goettingen.de/cv-info ) to inform.
We wish you good health and all the best in these challenging times
Ina Hunger (Director of the Institute for Sports Science)
The Sportinstitut Göttingen moved into the premises at its current location in 1971. With currently around 700 students, we are one of the largest sports science institutions in northern Germany.
The range of courses includes bachelor's degree courses with the profiles of teaching at high school, teaching at vocational schools (majoring in business education) and non-teaching (non-school job market). We offer two different master’s courses: the master of education (MEd), which qualifies you for traineeship at high schools, and the master’s in sports science with a focus on prevention and rehabilitation. Structured doctoral studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences are also possible.
Our institute is characterized in the individual areas of work by focusing on school sports research, in children and youth sports as well as health aspects of exercise, sports and games. Thanks to various cooperations, for example with the rehabilitation center Junge in the field of prevention and rehabilitation and the social pediatric center of the University Medical Center Göttingen, the specialist clinic Waldweg as well as partners from young competitive sports, our students have the opportunity to get an early insight into professionally relevant structures and research projects.
The location is also characterized by short distances to the university facilities, the very well-equipped library and modern sports facilities for many sports.
