Göttingen Canopy Walkway

The Göttingen Canopy Walkway is a new facility for research and students training established in 2009 in a mid-aged broadleaved deciduous forest in the area of the Experimental Botanical Garden of the University. The walkway is 72 metres long and runs over 9 towers in a height of ca. 15 m above the ground. It gives access to the middle and upper canopies of nine different tree species and allows ecological research e.g. on the leaf water status or on the photosynthetic carbon gain of the trees. The species present in the vicinity of the walkway are Acer campestre, A. platanoides, A. pseudoplatanus, Carpinus betulus, Fraxinus excelsior, Prunus avium, Quercus robur, Robinia pseudoacacia, and Tilia cordata. Due to insurance concerns, the Göttingen Canopy Walkway is not open for public access.
