Mission in the world of Congo
Our fellow resident Hanna gave a presentation this semester on our community’s social project. Her aunt, the Reverend Reinhild Schneider, has worked for many years as a pastor in Congo. Many-sided jobs and diverse Projects define her community work. Our fellow resident had the opportunity to gain an authentic impression of this community work through a two-month, on-site tour of service. Reverend Schneider is commissioned through the Bavarian organizationMission Eine Welt, whose work in the Congo we want to support this year through our donations.
HIV/AIDS
Mission Eine Welt is in charge of the HIV/AIDS project in Congo, so it is financed by donations from the Bavaria HIV/Aids Educational Seminar. A further area of operation in Congo is Christian education.
Christian Education
A liaison has been established among diverse diocese and townships in the region which, for example, makes needed materials more available. Hanna’s aunt is in charge of both the project and the branch of the organization working on the project.
Theological Training
Moreover, Mission Eine Welt supports the theological training of men and women in the central seminary of the Church in Kimbeimbe at Lubumashi through financial aid, and as well through a pastor appointed by the institution.
Construction of Churches
Village churches and townships stand at the center of the work of the EELCo (Eglise Evangelique Lutherienne au Congo): worship, women’s and youth groups, children’s hours, and even Kindergartens. Mission Eine Welt supports village residents by providing them with roofing materials and cement for the building of churches.
Focal Point West Congo
For all the years that Pastor Schneider has been in Congo, and primarily in the city of Bukavu and in the province of South Kivu in the eastern part of the country, military conflicts between rebels and militias have been an ever-present problem. The community in Bukavu receives countless refugees from all over the region. The provisions of the church cannot stop at preliminary humanitarian aid, but must take into account also provision for the aftermath of continuing war—trauma treatment and orphan care, for example.
Mission EineWelt operates by providing pastors, as well as by maintaining a strong partnership between Germany and Congo. Both of these are key to maintaining accountable relations with our brothers and sisters in Congo. Sustainable projects are opening up new perspectives and helping to provide decent living conditions.
In order to see this work continued Mission EineWelt is constantly searching for financial support. We hope in the near future to receive Reinhild Schneider herself for a presentation in the Stift.
