Spanish (M.Ed.)
Course description
Spanish studies taken within the consecutive Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree programme prepare students for secondary level II teaching positions at secondary schools and comprehensive schools. In conjunction with the intensification of language skills and specialised skills gained during the Bachelor's degree programme, students taking Spanish within the Master’s of Education will primarily acquire the teaching skills and experience necessary for planning, structuring and giving secondary school courses in Spanish.
Course Structure
The specialised academic part is divided accordingly into the sub-areas of language practice, language/literature/regional studies and specialised didactics.
Language practice
In the practical language module M.Rom.Spa.601 (6 C), students intensify their language skills in listening and understanding, oral expression, text comprehension and writing to the level C1-C1+ of the Common European Framework (CEF).
Language/literature/regional studies
The specialised module M.Spa.L.302 (8 C) expands competencies in the two of the sub-areas linguistics, literature or regional studies.
Specialised didactics
Special weighting is placed on the specialised didactic component of the degree programme (15 C): It is here that students complete a course in subject-specific lesson planning, and a specialised internship at a school or a research fellowship including the accompanying courses and lectures (M.Spa.L.303 and / or M.Spa.L.304). Yet another didactic module (M.Spa.L.305) addresses hypotheses, methods and findings of specialised didactic research.
Stay abroad during your studies
When registering for the Master's thesis, students are required to provide evidence of a three-month study-related stay abroad.
Language requirements during studies
When registering for the Master's thesis, students are required to provide evidence of a proficiency in another foreign language (B1 GER).
Professional fields
Students who have earned their credentials in this degree programme are entitled to enter the preparatory service for teaching in secondary schools. Moreover, the degree qualifies graduates for a university career, for non-school-based adult education and for work in professions requiring extensive knowledge of the Spanish language and the Spanish and Latin American cultures alongside intercultural competence (of research and cultural institutions, arts journalism, cultural management, public relations).
