Teaching at the Institute of Agricultural Law

Research and teaching are of equal importance at the Institute of Agricultural Law, which makes an important contribution to the maintenance and development of German, European and international agricultural law.
In its development plan for the years 2011-2017, the Faculty of Law underlined its intention to expand the research focus on "Legal consequences of changes in economic and social structure for rural areas". Building on this, it was possible to integrate agricultural law as a subfield in the new priority area 9: "Governing, Regulating, Managing". Thus, for the first time since the end of the 1970s, agricultural law has been offered as a regular subject at a law faculty of a German university. This includes the courses "Fundamentals of Agricultural Law " and
"Agrarian Environmental Law" and a "Seminar on Agricultural Law". This integration of agricultural law into the faculty development is to be strengthened in the development plan currently being drawn up.
The courses on agricultural law have also been opened to law students since the summer semester 2014. In the winter semester 2020/2021, 113 students attended the lecture Fundamentals of Agricultural Law. In the summer semester of 2020, 290 students from the Faculty of Law and Agricultural Sciences participated in the Agrarian Environmental Law course. The seminar on agricultural law is regularly fully booked.

The courses on agricultural law presented here are coordinated in terms of timing and content. In particular, they enable students of law and agricultural sciences in Göttingen to acquire comprehensive knowledge of this unique legal subject.
