Research & Classes by the Institute for Agricultural Law
Research and teaching are equivalent at the Institute for Agricultural Law, which makes an important contribution to the maintenance and development of German, European and international agricultural law. In its development plan for the years 2011-2017, the Faculty of Law has emphasized the extension of the research focus to "Legal consequences of the change of economic and social structure for rural areas". Based on this, agricultural law as a subarea could be integrated into the new “Schwerpunktbereich” 9: "Governance, regulation, administration". Thus, in Göttingen, since the end of the 1970s, agricultural law has again become an ordinary subject at a faculty of law at a German university. This includes the courses "Agricultural Law" and "Agricultural and Environmental Law" as well as a "Seminar on Agricultural Law". This integration of agricultural law to the faculty is to be strengthened in the current development plan. Since summer term 2014, the events on agricultural law have also been opened to law students. In winter term 2015/2016, 158 students attended the lecture Agricultural law. In the summer term 2016, 325 students from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences participated in the event Agricultural and Environmental Law. The agricultural law seminar is regularly fully booked.

Göttingen Handbook for Latin American Law:
Dirección: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Kai Ambos/ Prof. Dr. José Martinez (editores)
Fecha: 2021-2023

Date: 2021-2023
The project “Göttingen Handbook for Latin American Law” brings together authors from different countries, in their majority from Latin America. The authors will elaborate essay-like papers regarding topics of transnational and regional (Latin American) interest from their national perspective but will integrate experiences and legal practices from other Latin American jurisdictions.
The envisaged publication will take a public law perspective, with a special focus on comparative constitutional and criminal law. The area of criminal law will include international criminal law (the persecution of international crimes at a national level and the relation between gender and transitional justice), criminal law (aspects of legality and proportionality, but also questions of prevention and restorative justice), criminal procedure (abbreviated procedures, sentencing reductions based on remorse/ following a guilty plea, evidence and jury trials). Moreover, the book will address broader criminal justice topics, such as, drug policies, corruption, impunity and penal populism. Regarding comparative constitutional law the book will examine, among others, the following subjects: the Ibero-American concept of democracy, the separation of powers, state of emergency and derogation and the welfare state.
The book will be published by the German publisher Nomos in English via open access.
