Closure of two Greenhouses

Dear visitors,

Following the damage caused by vandalism last week, the Cycad House and the Rainforest House are now open to the public again. The damaged glass panes have been temporarily secured for the time being, so there is currently no danger from falling debris.

Please note: The final glass repair work by the glazier will take place sometime this week. On the day these repairs are carried out, the greenhouses will have to be closed once more for safety reasons.

Thank you very much for your patience.

The Old Botanical Garden Team.

50-year-old birch tree cut down due to safety concerns

Our birch tree stood in a very central location in the garden for over 50 years.
A few years ago, we discovered that the tree was infested with a fungus and was becoming increasingly weak.
Removal had been planned for this coming autumn, as the tree could no longer be saved.
However, following a recent storm front with heavy gusts of wind, the tree leaned to such an extent that it posed an acute danger.
For this reason, it had to be felled immediately to ensure the safety of our visitors.
We thank you for your understanding. (15 June 2026)

Birke gefällt

The image clearly shows that the decision to fell the tree was correct and unavoidable.
