The evaluation of the GSGG was divided into three elements:
An online survey of all doctoral candidates and supervisors
An activity report about the work of the GSGG since its foundation
The inspection by an external and an internal commission
The member survey about the fields of evaluation mentioned above was conducted online from 10th to 30th June 2015 (response rate: approx. 29% doctoral candidates, approx. 19% supervisors).
Please find below a summary of the comments received:
The majority of the feedback shows a high level of satisfaction with the GSGG and its services. However, there occasionally was some fundamental criticism (over-regulation of the doctoral phase). We are glad about the positive feedback as well as grateful for critical comments.
The feedback for the grants and allowances the GSGG offers is similar. Fundamentally, there is great satisfaction with the offers; however, we received several very constructive suggestions for development.
We are happy to comply with the request to provide more information on our consulting services.
The evaluation was conducted by an internal and an external commission. The internal commission consisted of representatives of the faculties as well as department managers of the central administration with who we cooperate in different areas. The external commission consisted of international experts in the supporting of graduates. The inspection took place on 3rd December 2015. After a brief presentation and panel discussion posters about the GSGG were presented. Furthermore, the external commission held talks with a group of 20 doctoral candidates and a group of 10 postdocs to gain a first-hand impression of the situation of young scientists in the humanities at University of Göttingen.
